Iraq is among the countries that are in urgent need of a comprehensive national security strategy and policy that organizes its internal relations and its regional and international interactions, especially given the multiple challenges it faces on domestic, regional, and international levels.
It can also be said that Iraq faces significant security challenges arising from the complex developments in the military capabilities of Iran and Turkey, which coincide with the ongoing regional and international conflicts affecting the country. Moreover, the rapid growth in the military capabilities of these two countries — whether in terms of domestic armament, technological advancement, expansion of weapons and defense systems industries, or the training of human forces — has contributed to destabilizing Iraq’s security situation. These growing military capabilities are accompanied by military and political strategies and policies through which Iran and Turkey aim to achieve their goals and enhance their regional influence, which directly and indirectly affects Iraq’s national security.
